Introduction to Gunsmithing
This course will cover operational theory, disassembly and assembly, proper use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments, and an introduction to basic bench work of the gunsmithing trade. Consideration will be given to minor gun repair and the installation of firearm accessories. A brief study of Federal Firearm Law and record keeping will be included

Basic Machine Shop
This class offers instruction and hands-on experience in machine tool operation. Students will gain experience with the metalworking lathe and milling machine in the manufacture of parts and tools. Enrollment is limited to 15 students.

Introductory Pneumatic Engraving
This course covers the use of various pneumatic gravers on the market today.  Special emphasis will be placed on setting up and adjusting the tools, tool sharpening techniques, maintenance, and cutting techniques.

Scrimshaw
Learn the Art of Scrimshaw one-on-one with Jim Stevens.  You do not need and interest in gunsmithing to take this course.  The techniques taught are the same for anyone wanting to learn how to create beautiful scrimshaw. An intensive, hands-on, two-week course taught by artist, sculptor and scrimshander Jim Stevens.

Advanced Machine Shop
This course will provide further instruction and practice on machine tool operation.  The students will be instructed in rifle barrel re-barreling techniques as well as some advanced machine shot operations.  Projects will vary according to individual interests.  Enrollment is limited to 15 students.  PREREQUISITE: Basic machine shot or consent of instructor.

Sporterizing Military Bolt Actions
Course topic include bolt handle alterations, low safety modifications, drilling and tapping for scope mounts, trigger installations, magazine and feeding problems and other modifications.

Vintage Metal Finishing
Learn the art of guild quality vintage metal finishing from Chuck Grace, Vice President of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild.  A one week course covering the correct procedures employed to "French Gray", "Damascus" & "Rust" blue vintage and modern firearms as well as other vintage finishes.

Welding for Gunsmiths
This course will introduce the student to various welding practices through hands-on instruction.  Topics include: basic safety, oxyacetylene, cutting and brazing techniques, gunsmith Micro-Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), Gas Tungsten Welding (TIG), fabrication and repair of small metal fixtures and parts relating to the gunsmith industry will be included.

Share in the secrets of what it takes to build a rifle capable of competing at "world class" levels and apply those techniques to the modern hunting, varmint, or competition rifles.

Scrimshaw II
Week two with Jim Stevens.  Learn to apply the techniques learned in week one to create beautiful scrimshaw pieces.  An intensive, hands-on, final week course taught by artist, sculptor and scrimshander Jim Stevens.

Brownells Stock Refinishing
This course will aid the occasional gun mechanic or professional shop alike.  Will include instruction on stripping old finish, making minor repairs, freshening up oil soaked stocks and what to use when applying the new finish.

Metalsmithing Single Shot Rifles 1
This will be atwo week long hands on course on Metalsmithing the falling block rifle.  The emphasis will be on high quality workmanship and the accurate single shot rifle.  The student will be led through the process of properly preparing and barreling their own single shot action. Class will cover the various US and British single shot action design of the lat 19th century up through WWI.  Class room instruction will cover the various action design, simple and set trigger designs, chamber and extractor/ejector designs, and basic metallurgy and heat treating theory.

Prerequisites: Mill, lathe and hand tool experience, or consent of instructor.  class size: limited to 10 students

Benchrest Stocking and Stock Design
This course will describe and demonstrate the modern methods of stocking today's state of the art match rifles.  The class will also learn the current design technology used in single and multi-purpose rifle stock lay out & geometry.  The lab work will consist of inletting, pillar bedding using G-10 pillars or the modern glue-in methods.  The design and machining of aluminum bedding blocks.  Students are encouraged to bring a semi or no-inlet laminate or composite stock and barreled action to inlet and bed.

Double Guns
This course will cover work on high grade double guns, including regulating triggers, repairing locks and restoring guns to safe condition.  Resetting sprung ribs and tightening loose actions will also be discussed.  Students will bring their own guns to work on.  Enrollment limited to 12 students.  Prerequisite: machine shop or consent of instructor

Bullet Making & Precision Reloading
For those who wish to take the next step up from standard reloading practices, Speedy Gonzalez will take you into the realm of precision reloading and custom bullet swaging.  The class will consist of advanced reloading theory and applications, lessons on the "expanding up" principals of bullet swaging, the proper use of "neck turning" equipment and case preparation.  Bullet making components are sponsored and donated by Berger Bullets.

Take Down Lever Guns
David Clay of DRC Custom guns walks you through the building of a take down Marlin Lever Action.  The class will learn all the processes required to convert a standard Marlin to a custom field ready take down employing the patented DRC system that allows one to take down the rifle and leave the magazine fully loaded.  Prerequisite: Mill, lathe and hand tool experience.

Advanced Hand Engraving
This course covers advanced concepts and skills related to push engraving and hammer and chisel engraving.  Special emphasis will be placed on scroll types, precious metal inlaw, bulino and banknote engraving, restoring engraving, and lettering.  Students should complete the introductory hand Engraving course prior to enrolling Advanced Hand Engraving.

National Match AR-15's
This class will cover the techniques and methods used to build and maintain match winning AR's.  While the emphasis will be on rifles for "Across the Course" shooting, most of the methods apply equally to other types of competition.  Topics covered will be sights, triggers, barrel installation, and barrel chambering and fitting.

Custom Stockmaking (Week 1)
The class will cover topics of choosing a blank, making a pattern stock, inletting, shaping, and finishing of machined wood.  Drilling of through-bold holes and breech screws will also be covered. The majority of class time will be hands-on inletting and shaping.  Students should bring their own projects to work on, they are encouraged to contact instructor about which projects to bring and for tools necessary to complete the work. Please note tat we will not be concentrating on building a bolt-action rifle stock from a blank.

Pneumatic Airgunsmithing
The class will start with an introduction to the various airgun systems.  Then the focus of the class will be the proper disassembly and assembly of the various makes and models of pneumatic airguns.  The major manufacturers being covered are Crosman, Benjamin, Sheridan, Dairy, Beeman, Marksman, Webley and Gamo will be covered.  Additionally the inspection and repair of the parts will be covered, then the necessary function and safety checks after assembly to ensure proper and safe operation.

Tactical Remington 700's
This course will cover the basics in Accurizing any Remington 700 PSS or heavy barreled 700 for Tactical use.  Students will re-build the rifle from the ground up using LaBounty fixtures and mandrels to square the receivers.  Trigger work and Sako extractor installation will also be covered.  Get the most out of your factory heavy barreled rifle.

Brownells 1911 Handguns
The 1911 is the "Army" .45 caliber, semiautomatic pistol developed by John Browning.  This class will address the general fit and function of the 1911.  More advanced techniques will also be covered such as slide tightening, fitting oversized bushings, new barrels and sights.

NRA Lab & Independent Study
This is a continuation of last year's Alumni class.  If you have a special project that doesn't really fit any of our scheduled classes or if our schedule does not match yours, an independent study segment may be the answer.  The independent Study option provides an opportunity to custom design your own gunsmithing class to fit your schedule.  There are, of course, some restrictions.  So if you are interested , please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your project and schedule.

Brownells Alternative Finishes
This course includes instruction and hands on training in metal preparation, application, and safety for the application of modern spray on finishes. Bake on, Self curing and Epoxy finished will be covered, demonstrated and applied.  Whether for your own personal use of increasing the profit margin in your gun shop this class is a must.  Students should supply their won firearms or parts to work on.
